From our Wednesday Wines, Rhythm & Brews music series, The Blue Ray Trio joins us for a weekend performance. This week at the Zou, our Rhythm, Wine & Brews series presents the Blue Rays Trio!  The Blue Rays Trio, featuring bassist/vocalist Ralph McKee, guitarist/vocalist Peter Holland,and harmonica player Tim Douthit offer up a unique blend of traditional and modern blues and funk along with some well-known Beatles and Dylan tunes, emphasizing strong grooves, vocal harmonies, and inventive arrangements. Ralph McKee has played with numerous acts, including alt-country band Hoodang, soul divas Lady Sunshine and Tosha Owens, 60s rockers SRC, reggae band The Pulsations, jazz/pop band All Directions and singer-songwriter act Bridge Club. He has played on and helped produce 10 CDS, including 2 critically acclaimed McKee Brothers blues/funk projects as well as recordings by Hoodang, Bridge Club and the Blue Rays, and shared stages with blues and soul greats Larry McCray and Bob Schultz. Originally from Boston, Peter Holland has delivered powerful acoustic groove and finesse in many styles at innumerable venues in this area in the past few years. Tim Douthit learned blues harp in Houston’s 5th ward and busking in Europe, and has played alongside blues greats Luther “Guitar Junior” Johnson, Russell B. Jackson (BB King’s bassist), and Danny Jones.
